'Untitled' - Rachel Whiteread
Negative plaster casts of books on shelves. It appears to me that the books have been ripped out, leaving colours, imprints of titles, pieces and patterns. The wall piece evokes a physical memory of the books she took the cast of while metaphorically it reminds me of civilization as a fossil; the use of white suggesting emptiness and death and the faint colour from the books being the reminder.
